Tempel Lipizzans Kick Off Summer Performances With Salute to Mozart's 250th Birthday
No ordinary tribute, this one's straight from the horses' mount ...
WHO: Illinois' own Tempel Lipizzan Stallions, joined by the Austrian
Consul General to Chicago, Robert Zischg, and musicians from
Chicago's All-city Symphony Orchestra ...
WHAT: will open their summer performance season with a tribute to
another of Austria's famous cultural exports, Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart.
For their part in the year-long, world-wide celebration of
Mozart's 250th birthday anniversary, the Tempel Lipizzans will
perform the "Ballet of the White Stallions" and signature,
Pegasus-like "Airs Above the Ground" to a classical score
centered on some of Mozart's most popular works, including
selections played live by Chicago's All-city Symphony Orchestra.
In a special, post-performance tribute to Mozart, presided over
by Consul General Zischg, a Lipizzan will partake of an oversized
cake, topped with carrot "candles," as the audience sings "Happy
Birthday to Mozart," accompanied by the live orchestra.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 10:30 a.m. - Noon
(Mozart tribute to begin immediately following performance)
WHERE: Tempel Farms in northern Lake County, Wadsworth, Ill. Tempel
Farms is located off the Edens Expressway (I-94), exit Route 132
west (Grand Ave.) to Hunt Club Road (located at the edge of
Gurnee Mills shopping center). Turn right and drive
approximately two miles to second three-way stop, turning right
onto Wadsworth Road. A sign indicates Tempel Lipizzan performance
parking.
In case of rain, the performance will be moved to the indoor
arena.
NOTE: Officially recognized as a rare breed, fewer than 2,500 Lipizzans
exist in the world today. About 60 of these magnificent horses,
all direct descendants of the six original bloodlines developed
in Austria more than 425 years ago, reside at Tempel Farms.
Tempel Farms is one of only a few places in the world where
Lipizzans are bred, trained and perform on the same property.
The Tempel Lipizzan summer performance season runs every
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. through August 30.
