Teri Hatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev Announced the Women's World Awards 2006 to be Held in New York
LOS ANGELES, California, April 10/PRNewswire/ -- On behalf of the World Awards, panelists actress Teri Hatcher, former
Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and acting World Awards President, along
with Georg Kindel, Founder and Chairman of the World Awards, announced at a
press conference in Beverly Hills the move of the WOMEN'S WORLD AWARDS 2006
from Europe to the USA.
"We are pleased to bring an event that recognizes the vital
contributions of exceptional women to the important North American
audience," said Georg Kindel. "The Women's World Awards will provide a truly
global entertainment experience for audiences worldwide, while showcasing
the diverse accomplishments of truly unique and talented women."
The prestigious awards will be presented for the third time on October
14, 2006 at the Madison Square Garden Theater in 12 different categories to
unique women for exceptional achievements in their field. The Superfund
Investment Group, one of the world's leading managed futures funds provider,
will present the glamorous gala which will be taped for television and
broadcast around the world.
The annual Women's World Awards are not only a major international
television event with numerous stars, but a global appeal for more equality
for women, self-determination and the end of social and economic
discrimination. As World Awards Founder Georg Kindel poignantly stated: "Even
in the 21st century women are robbed of their rights in many countries around
the world, and they are often victims of abuse. It is time to change this.
With the awards and the global platform 'Women's World Forum' we hope to do
our part to help bring about a more humane society."
- Teri Hatcher's battle against sexual abuse
Teri Hatcher, in a highly emotional statement revealed how her uncle
sexually abused her as a child. She made it clear that these painful memories
will only inspire her to campaign vigorously against such abuse and for more
rights for women. "There are many women who suffer with these traumatic
experiences their whole lives, and they keep those things a secret", Teri
Hatcher said, her eyes welling with tears. "It's a choice to not remain
silent and it's a choice to raise our voices in a strong way, to say to
perpetrators that we are not going to be silent anymore."
President Gorbachev wholeheartedly supports Hatcher's appeal. "With the
Women's World Awards we are putting women on center stage, presenting
individuals who are role models for others, who give courage and provide
inspiration to millions of others to follow their own ideals."
Teri Hatcher thanked both Mikhail Gorbachev and Georg Kindel for their
"important commitment and efforts on behalf of women" with the Women's World
Awards and the global platform Women's World Forum. Many women who are
victims of abuse "spend some of their lives feeling that the faults of things
that have happened to them was something that they caused." This is wrong. We
all have to do our part to insure that women no longer suffer from
discrimination.
