OpenTV and C-COR Unveil Industry's First Open Architecture Switched Digital Broadcast Solution

Joint SDB Solution to Showcase on the Most Widely Deployed Motorola Set-Top Boxes

ATLANTA, (NCTA, The National Show), April 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ:OPTV), a leading provider of enabling technologies for advanced digital television services, and C-COR Incorporated (NASDAQ:CCBL), a global provider of interoperable solutions that simplify the transition to on demand networks, announced the integration of two of the companies' technologies, resulting in the industry's first open architecture switched digital video system. The two companies will demonstrate the joint solution at the OpenTV booth #3951 during the National Cable and Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) 2006 National Show.

The open architecture switched digital video solution involves the integration of an interactive program guide based on OpenTV Core 2.0 Middleware(TM) running on Motorola's DCT-2000/2500 set-top boxes and C-COR's nABLE(TM) Global Session and Resource Manager (GSRM) providing the session and edge resource management.

The solution offers cable operators the ability to employ SDB on the Motorola box as well as any other set-top box on the market, freeing up bandwidth for other core competitive offerings such as high definition broadcasting and video-on-demand. Switched digital broadcasting enables instant bandwidth allocation for infrequently used channels, rather than the current means of allocating bandwidth to lesser used channels all the time.

"This is the first time anyone has been able to offer a multi-vendor switched digital broadcast capability based on broadly supported protocols for Motorola's most widely-deployed set-top boxes," said Jim Chiddix, Chairman and CEO of OpenTV. "Today's announcement represents a way to offer cable operators new bandwidth without replacing legacy boxes, an undertaking that can be extremely costly."

C-COR's nABLE GSRM is a core component of the company's scalable and widely deployed nABLE On Demand Management Platform offering operators the critical ability to manage both On Demand and switched digital broadcast from the same application. nABLE's interoperable design and adaptability to MSO protocols gives operators the flexibility to integrate with any edge device, switch, client software, and guide for a faster time to market in delivering an SDB solution.

"Our combined flexible solution enables operators to cost-effectively deploy switched digital broadcast solutions into existing digital cable environments at a large scale -- no new silos, no stranded capital," said Michael Pohl, president of C-COR Global Strategies group. "By leveraging C-COR's extensive experience in delivering On Demand solutions and OpenTV's leading client side software, operators will be able to offer virtually unlimited broadcast programming, regardless of the set-top box, while drastically reducing bandwidth requirements."

OpenTV Core 2.0 is the latest release of the company's set-top box middleware, the most widely deployed in the world. OpenTV Core middleware provides a common operating environment across different hardware and software digital television platforms, enabling the cost-effective deployment of new services that will help operators respond quickly to changing consumer demands.

Switched Digital Broadcast integrated with OpenTV Core 2.0, nABLE GSRM and Harmonic Network Services Gateway (NSG) will be demonstrated at The National Cable & Telecommunications Association Show April 9th to 11th in Atlanta, GA in the OpenTV Booth #3591.
