Singer/Songwriter Lee Newman Releases 'Happy Together: The '60s Songbook'

Highlights Include New Version of John Lennon's 'Help,' Recorded at the Suggestion of Former Lennon Associate May Pang

LOS ANGELES, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Singer/Songwriter/Musician Lee Newman's "Happy Together: The '60s Songbook," featuring new versions of classic pop songs from the sixties, will be released April 24th on SLK Records. "Happy Together" will be available at Tower Records and Amoeba Records, online via Apple's iTunes.com and every major online retailer. Produced by Lauren Wild, (Rod Stewart, Carly Simon) the CD is highlighted by a new version of the Beatles classic song "Help," that John Lennon himself wished to re-record.

Happy Together celebrates "the new standards" -- hit songs which hark back to the '60s. Other tracks on the new CD include "Happy Together" (originally by The Turtles), "Daydream Believer" (The Monkees), "Never My Love" (The Association), "Temptation Eyes" (The Grass Roots), "There's A Kind of Hush (All Over The World)" (Herman's Hermits), "Walk Away Renee" (Left Banke), "Up, Up and Away" (The Fifth Dimension), "Here Comes that Rainy Day Feeling" (The Fortunes), "Bus Stop" (The Hollies), "Love Grows (Where my Rosemary Goes)" (Edison Lighthouse), "Traces" (Dennis Yost), and "No Matter What" (Badfinger).

At the suggestion of John Lennon's former girlfriend May Pang, Lee Newman recorded a slower, and more deliberate version of Lennon's famed "Help." "We hadn't considered doing any Beatles songs, as I've always felt that to be sacred territory," says Newman. "May Pang, who was closely involved with John Lennon in the 1970s, suggested that I record 'Help' in the way that John had intended to re-record it himself, years ago. What came out of our recording sessions was a wonderful surprise for all of us."
