Broadcast Facilities to Telecast U.S. Open Golf and National Football League's New Season
LAS VEGAS, NAB 2006, April 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced that NEP Supershooters (NEP) has purchased 22 Videotek(R) TVM series video and audio signal analyzers to outfit their latest top-of-the-line, high-definition (HD) broadcast trucks. These newest additions to the NEP fleet of mobile broadcast facilities will be on the road mid-2006 to broadcast coverage of golf's U.S. Open and the National Football League's new lineup of Sunday and Monday night telecasts. This significant purchase by NEP comprises mostly TVM-950 models with an assortment of video and audio options, as well as an all-new VTM Series(TM) instrument -- the most recent addition to the Videotek(R) product line.
"The versatility of the TVM-950s will enable us to monitor all the signal formats -- HD, SD and analog -- for cross-format transmission in our newest mobile units," said George Hoover, senior vice president of engineering, NEP Supershooters. "And because the TVM-950 is able to monitor up to four signal sources simultaneously in a single unit, we are able to reduce weight, space and costs, while still meeting all our technical requirements."
NEP Supershooters has relied on Harris to provide HD equipment for its remote broadcast facilities for many years, including Leitch distribution and Videotek(R) test and measurement equipment. In 2005, NEP used the Leitch X75(TM) up/down/cross converter and synchronizer to broadcast the FOX Network's coverage of Super Bowl XXXIX.
"NEP is prepared to address many of the potential issues that can arise in a mobile production environment with these very flexible instruments, which include a wealth of functionality," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "And the TVM-950's ability to handle multiple formats is a real benefit for customers who may be migrating to an HD environment in the future. Many competitive products will not facilitate the change to HD as readily and economically as our Videotek(R) test and measurement instruments."
With 100 percent digital signal processing technology, the TVM-950 provides accurate, stable display of single or multiple Waveform, Vector, Gamut, Audio, Picture, Timing and Data Analyzer functions in quadrant or full- screen views. The capabilities of the TVM-950 include advanced analysis tools, an extensive alarm set with peak level reporting. Dolby(R) metadata, EIA-608, 708 closed caption, Teletext and XDS data are decoded and displayed as well. Remote interfaces include 10/100BaseT Ethernet and USB ports, which support SDI frame-capture and transfer, and also provide mouse control.
The TVM series has a user-friendly interface featuring illuminated front- panel controls, direct access to all control features and presets, a streamlined, context-sensitive pop-up menu structure and an ultra-quiet cooling system, with a user-configurable platform design for easy field upgrades. Full digital implementation and automated testing provisions virtually eliminate manual adjustments during set-up and parameter changes. Options include HD/SD Eye Pattern, additional HD/SD-SDI, SD-SDI or analog composite inputs, eight channels of analog, AES/EBU and embedded audio processing, with CineSound(R) Surround display, Dolby(R) Digital and Dolby(R) E decoding. The TVM-950 seamlessly integrates into broadcast, post- production, satellite or cable facilities and is an ideal choice for quality control, troubleshooting or compliance-checking applications.
Harris has gained significant momentum in the mobile production market, with its products providing support in the newest HD mobile units at high- profile sports and entertainment events around the world. Its Leitch servers have been providing instant replay for NFL telecasts for years, and superior slow motion was added to the NEXIO(TM) HD server specifically to support sports coverage. The company's NEXIO(TM) NewsNet(TM) system has also been optimized for sports editing. Harris mobile production customers include All Mobile Video (AMV), MIRA Mobile Television, New Century Productions, Shook Mobile Technology, Mobile TV Group and Touring Video.
