Commencement Exercises Begin at 10:30 a.m.

Maya Lin, Kenneth Chenault, Dr. Irving Weissman to Receive Honorary Degrees

Among those receiving honorary degrees: Esteemed architect Maya Lin, designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.; American Express Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Chenault, also a member of the board of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation; and distinguished cell biologist Irving Weissman, famous for his pioneering work on stem cells.

WHAT: Columbia University's 2006 Commencement Exercises

11,000+ students graduating; 30,000 family and friends expected
to attend

WHEN: Wednesday, May 17, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the academic
procession

Note: TV crews please arrive by 9:30 a.m. for set-up; risers and a mult-box will be provided. Doors open at 9:00 a.m.

Citigroup Chief Financial Officer Sallie Krawcheck, Business '92,
will receive University Medal of Excellence; In addition, several
outstanding '06 graduates will be attending a post-ceremony press
avail.
