KNOXVILLE, Tenn., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Blue Ridge Mountains won't be high enough to contain the energy and excitement that will surround the HGTV Dream Home located at Grey Rock at Lake Lure, North Carolina when the network airs its 40-minute live special, HGTV Dream Home Giveaway on Saturday, April 29 at 8 p.m. PT/5 p.m. PT. Hearts will be pounding as show host Mark L. Walberg and the three lucky finalists randomly selected from more than 53 million entries assemble at the entrance of the luxury mountain home. While only one finalist one will get the key that opens the door to the HGTV Dream Home, all are guaranteed a $100,000 payday.
Viewers will be on the edge of their seats as they wait to find out which finalist will choose the key to the grand prize: Julie Free, a 29 year-old dietician consultant from Blackwell, Okla.; Donald Cook, a 56-year-old utility analyst from Alum Creek, W. Va., or Deanna Bains, a 59-year-old stock replenisher from Fairport, N.Y. And, in an exciting new twist for the 10th anniversary of the HGTV Dream Home, HGTV also will give away more than $400,000 in cash prizes to viewers at home during the live special.
The grand prize package in the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway has a retail value of approximately $2 million and includes the custom-built home with more than 3,000 square feet of flooring from Lumber Liquidators, a matching Doggy Dream Home, an all-new 2007 GMC Yukon and a $250,000 cash prize from LendingTree.com. The spectacular fully-furnished house is more than 5,000 square feet and features sweeping mountain views, a large covered porch with terrace for outdoor living and separate upper level guest quarters.
Immediately after the live special, the fun will continue on HGTV.com where visitors can view a broadband show live from the 2006 HGTV Dream Home and watch as the grand prize winner tours the home for the first time. Starting at 8:42 p.m. ET/5:42 p.m. PT, online visitors also can watch as the winner gets the keys to all-new 2007 GMC Yukon and receives the $250,000 cash prize from LendingTree.com. But the real online surprise comes when Jack Thomasson, who has served as house planner for nine HGTV Dream Homes, announces the location of the 2007 HGTV Dream Home site.
"We wanted to do something extraordinary for our 10th Anniversary," said Judy Girard, president, HGTV. "The HGTV Dream Home Giveaway has become an eagerly anticipated annual event that is not only a symbol of viewers' aspirations, but also the perfect representation of the HGTV brand. It has taken on a life of its own and has such a huge following that we enhanced the prizing options so that we could provide more viewers with the means to make their dreams come true."
Prior to the live special, the network will air a five-part series hosted by Gail O'Neill entitled Behind the Design of HGTV's Dream Home 2006 at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT. In addition, the network also will air HGTV's Dream Home 2006, a special hosted by Joan Steffend at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT that will offer viewers a tour of the house and its surrounding community.
Walberg's experience as a comedian, talk and game show host will come in handy during HGTV Dream Home Giveaway. Well-known to fans for his stint as host of reality television's Temptation Island, Walberg will need to use his trademark wit and charm to engage the nervous finalists and excited viewers as the drama unfolds live. In addition, Steffend, who led the team that surprised each of the finalists with news that they had a one in three chance to win the fabulous home, will be on hand to support the finalists and take viewers on a room by room tour of the home.
"We know our viewers will enjoy this opportunity to celebrate with us and share in the excitement of this giveaway," said Girard. "It's going to be spectacular!"
