Verizon to Discuss Multiple-Dwelling-Unit Fiber-to-the-Premises Thrust
With its fiber-to-the-premises strategy moving forward in 16 states, Verizon will announce plans to aggressively pursue fiber-based broadband connections to the one-fifth of its customers who reside in multiple dwelling units. The tactic, begun last year, will move forward in 2006 with a strong sales and engineering effort designed to eclipse last year's MDU penetration.

BACKGROUND: Verizon has begun aggressive marketing and engineering activity across its serving area to acquire rights-of-way within multi- dwelling-unit properties and begin providing residents with FiOS Internet and FiOS TV services. With fiber-to-the-premises construction, the fastest data speeds and broadest range of services are delivered right to the home, and because of fiber's nearly unlimited capacity, buildings are "future-proofed" against future demands for more broadband capacity. Verizon is launching an aggressive program using various technologies to meet the needs of property owners and deliver top-notch services.
