Musiwave Builds Momentum for Mobile Music Subscription Service
First Agreement Signed with Universal Music France
PARIS, March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Musiwave, an Openwave company (Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:OPWV)) and a leading provider of mobile music entertainment services to operators and media companies worldwide, today announced its first agreement with a major music company, Universal Music France, to roll-out subscription-based mobile music services.
As announced at MIDEM 2006 in January, leading French operator SFR is the first operator to launch the subscription-based mobile music service. The SFR service currently offers access to 80,000 songs from the Universal Music catalogue.
Musiwave's subscription-based mobile music service is now available worldwide. The subscription-based mobile music service offers consumers easy, flexible access to their favorite music via an intuitive and personalized user interface through the operator's portal. Consumers can "delete and recharge" songs to their mobile anytime, anywhere.
"The advent of 3G on a broad scale, coupled with growing consumer demand for high-quality music services, are setting the stage for mass mobile content adoption in 2006," said Nicolas Pelletier, Vice President of Musiwave. "A subscription-based mobile music service powered by Musiwave allows operators to deliver a compelling music experience with an attractive pricing model for all parties."
Musiwave has aligned with Secure Digital Container AG (SDC) to deliver a complete Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution to ensure secure content protection within a subscription-based service model.
According to a Jupiter Research survey from March 2005, the flat rate subscription model is one of the top three features requested by consumers regarding digital music services.
Musiwave is currently in discussions with additional major music companies to offer a wide breadth of music choices with the Musiwave mobile music subscription service. Musiwave's mobile music platform currently powers 20 operators' full track music mobile services globally.
