SUBJECT: 2006 Northeast Hurricane Threat to be Announced at Monday Press Briefing
SUBJECT: 2006 Northeast Hurricane Threat to be Announced at Monday Press Briefing
WHAT: Meteorologists from the AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center will hold
a press briefing to announce their preliminary forecast and the
likelihood of a major hurricane striking the Northeast perhaps as
early as this summer.
The intensity of this storm could rival that of a hurricane that
struck Providence, Rhode Island in 1938 and killed 700 people.
While their prediction still indicates above average activity,
there will be fewer storms than 2005's record 26 storms and 14
hurricanes.
AccuWeather.com's pre-season hurricane analyses have accurately
predicted the hurricane activity along the Gulf Coast in 2005,
Florida in 2004, and the Carolinas in 2003.
