Music Legend Herb Alpert and Sony Media Software Whip Up the Ultimate Remix Contest on ACIDplanet.com
Remix One of Alpert's Re-Recorded Solos From His New Album 'Rewhipped' With Exclusive New Sony Sound Series Loops for a Chance to Win Great Prizes
MADISON, Wis., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Extending the theme of his newest album, "Whipped Cream & Other Delights Rewhipped," a deconstructed, rebuilt and re-released version of the 1965 album that made him famous, legendary trumpeter Herb Alpert has joined forces with entertainment company Shout! Factory and Sony Media Software to launch a unique remix contest on ACIDplanet.com(R), the Internet's leading digital music community. Beginning today, fans of the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee can whip up their own remix of the track "Butterball" off of the "Rewhipped" album using a new performance from Herb Alpert and content from the comprehensive Sony(R) Sound Series(TM) catalog of music loops and samples. The loops for this contest have been carefully chosen from the collection launching in Sony Media Software's award-winning ACID Pro 6 Professional Music Workstation product next month.
"This ACIDplanet remix contest is a true extension of Herb's newest project, 'Rewhipped,' and we hope that his fans enjoy the creative process of remixing a track as much as we did," said Shawn Amos, executive producer of Rewhipped and Shout! Factory VP of A&R.
"Whipped Cream and Other Delights" has been revisited by some of today's top remixers, and is now available as "Whipped Cream & Other Delights Rewhipped" from Shout! Factory. Featuring remixes from such contemporary producers such as John King (of the Dust Brothers), Thievery Corporation, Medeski Martin & Wood and others, it's a decidedly new take on an established classic.
"We were so pleased to have the opportunity to work with a legendary musician like Herb Alpert," said Dave Chaimson, vice president of Marketing for Sony Media Software. "Alpert not only has a huge fan base that spans multiple generations, but his new album is truly an embodiment of the ACIDplanet experience: encouraging music fans to use their own creativity to reinterpret an existing song in order to create something new and innovative for the world to hear."
Herb Alpert's celebrated career in music began over four decades ago, with early and extraordinary successes including his 1958 co-write, with Lou Adler and Sam Cooke, of the evergreen hit "Wonderful World." Today, after more than 75 million records sold, Alpert's versatile talent is legendary. His myriad credits include triumphs as a superstar trumpeter and bandleader, label founder, producer, composer, arranger and vocalist, the latter, most notably for his 1968 No. 1 single with the now-classic track "This Guy's In Love With You," which was also the first #1 hit for the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Most recently, Alpert was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13.
