Mary Chapin Carpenter and Author Anne Lamott Collaborate for a Unique Evening of Word and Song
March 29th Santa Rosa Performance to Be One of Only Three Select West Coast Engagements
SANTA ROSA, Calif., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- On March 29 at 8 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts two incredible artists come together for a unique and rare evening of honesty and introspection as told through their hit music and insightful readings. Mary Chapin Carpenter and Anne Lamott have collaborated live on stage only once before, to an overflow audience at UCLA's Royce Hall in 2002. The Los Angeles Times called it "an affecting meditation on the affirming role of emotional faith," adding, "Lamott and Carpenter created a dazzling evening of storytelling that stripped away show-biz artifice and relied on the enduring power of compelling narrative to hold the sold-out crowd in its grip." Now, these two outstanding artists return for three more performances, beginning with their one night only Santa Rosa performance on March 29, and followed by a performance at Montalvo Arts Center's Fox Theatre, in Redwood City, CA on March 30, and an April 4th performance at UC Santa Barbara's Campbell Hall.
As a recording artist, Mary Chapin Carpenter has won five Grammy Awards, sold well over 12 million records and earned extraordinary critical acclaim. The writer Anne Lamott is responsible for numerous best-selling books, both fiction and nonfiction. Though they employ different modes of writing and expression, these artists often focus on similar themes and subjects in their work and lives. Among their many shared passions are animals-the topic that finally brought them into contact. While on tour and preoccupied by a terminally ill canine friend, Carpenter skipped a sound check and took to the internet to research. She discovered an entry about dogs in Lamott's Salon online diary, Word by Word, winner of the TIME Magazine's "Best of the Web" distinction. Touched by the writing, Carpenter immediately emailed Lamott and initiated a conversation that has remained vital ever since.
"An Evening of Word and Song" finds Lamott and Carpenter in an intimate and informal setting where the lyricism of Lamott's prose and the richness of Carpenter's artistry shine through. The collaboration offers a rare experience of these artists in all their breadth and depth. Tickets ($29, $39, $49) are available at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts Box Office, 50 Mark West Springs Road in Santa Rosa, by phone at 707-546-3600, or online at www.wellsfargocenterarts.com.
