Federal Reserve Releases New Statistics About Credit Cards

The new Survey of Consumer Finances from the Federal Reserve gives a concerning snapshot of the finances of the average American family with growing debt and shrinking savings, reports LowCards.com.

According to the survey, forty-six-point-two percent of all families now carry a credit card balance. This is up from forty-four-point-four percent in 2001. Households are also carrying higher balances; the mean balance is now five thousand one hundred dollars (four thousand four hundred in 2001) and the median balance is two thousand two hundred dollars (two thousand dollars in 2001). The median income is currently forty three thousand two hundred dollars and the typical family's credit card balance is now almost five percent of their annual income.

Katrina Doesn't Motivate Many Homeowners to Protect Their Investment

Despite Hurricane Katrina's devastation, a new survey says that most Americans are not very concerned about buying flood insurance for their homes. Only fourteen percent of Americans say they have purchased flood insurance for their primary residence, according to the survey of seven hundred homeowners, conducted for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies by Opinion Research Corporation.
