The Miami Underground Film Festival - 'Its Time!'
MIAMI, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Miami Underground Film Festival once only the "talk" over Cuban coffee -- has finally taken flight. Created to give the independent filmmaker a forum to screen their work -- The Miami Underground Film Festival is now the buzz of the Miami independent filmmakers. We felt there are many talented artist that do not have a way of exhibiting their work. While other festivals in the area cater to million dollar Hollywood films and "so-called" independent films, it is simply a facade to have expensive parties and rub elbows with movie stars, politicians and socialites.
We cater to the true independent artist and the film fan that likes to see dynamic work that's provocative and cutting edge. While we will always put an emphasis on local talent, we will always exhibit work from around the world.
In this, our premiere year, we have a combination of award winning films as well as world premieres.
Films such as, The Altruist by Mick McCleery, winner of Best Feature at the Bare Bones Film Festival. Director McCleery will be flying in from New Jersey to host a Q&A after his film and to be part of a Filmmakers panel.
Local award winning filmmaker Jeff Carroll will present his film, Golddigger Killer, winner of Best Feature at the H20 Hip Hop Film Festival.
Not to be forgotten will be the Cuban film showcase including; Freedom Flight -- audience favorite at the Chicago Latino Film Festival -- with a 15 week run on the big screen!
Along with those great award-winning films, we have the world premiere of Porkchop and a glass of water by local filmmaker Rafael Diaz-Wagner. The film was shot for less than $20,000 with an all local cast and crew. Some say this is the El Mariachi of the new millennium.
That is just a sample of the many features, documentaries and shorts in this year's Miami Underground Film Festival. Our emphasis will always be undiscovered or neglected talent from around the world. We hope to grow throughout the years and serve as a launching pad for future independent filmmakers in the spirit of Cassavetes, Rodriguez, Meyer and Jarmusch.
The Miami Underground Film Festival is also donating a percent of all ticket sales to a local member of the community -- Victor Borges. A friend of the festival and the community -- Victor has been diagnosed with cancer this past year and is fighting the fight. We will stand by his side and help him battle this uncaring disease until he defeats it and stand strong!
