HOLLYWOOD, Calif., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Helen Reddy, the empowering and endearing vocalist who once had the whole world singing "I am woman, hear me roar," is the subject of a new career and era-defining single-disc anthology CD. Helen Reddy: The Woman I Am - The Definitive Collection will be released May 2 by Capitol/EMI Music Catalog Marketing, and will include personal track notes written by Reddy specifically for the new release, as well as never-before-published personal photos from Reddy's own archive. The CD's 22 songs include nine #1 hits, Reddy's Grammy-winning rally cry "I Am Woman," and six previously unavailable tracks, making it one of the year's best Mother's Day gifts. The new anthology and twelve of Reddy's original Capitol Records albums will also make their digital release debut on May 2 at all of the major Digital Service Providers (DSPs).
Already a best-seller in Reddy's native Australia, her memoir, The Woman I Am, will be published in the U.S. on May 4 by Tarcher/Penguin. Reddy will promote her new CD anthology and book in upcoming national television appearances, including an interview with NBC's "Today" on May 4 and a book tour to New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Of her feminist anthem, "I Am Woman," Reddy says, "This song humbles me. It has come to define not only me but also an era. Had I known I was putting two phrases into the lexicon, as well as myself and feminism into high school history textbooks, I'd have been too intimidated to put pen to paper."
Helen Reddy: The Woman I Am - The Definitive Collection contains 20 tracks from her classic 1970s Capitol Records albums: I Don't Know How To Love Him (1971); I Am Woman (1972); Long Hard Climb (1973); Love Song For Jeffrey (1974); Free and Easy (1974); No Way To Treat A Lady (1975); Music, Music (1976); Ear Candy (1977); We'll Sing In The Sunshine (1978); and Live In London (1978), as well as "Candle On The Water" from Capitol's 1977 original soundtrack album for Walt Disney Pictures' Pete's Dragon, and "Surrender," a highlight from Reddy's 1998 album of show tunes, Center Stage (Varese Sarabande). Six of the new anthology's tracks have been out-of-print in recent years: "Crazy Love, "Best Friend," "Think I'll Write A Song," "Bluebird," "Surrender," and "We'll Sing in the Sunshine."
Digitally, Helen Reddy: The Woman I Am - The Definitive Collection and twelve of Reddy's original Capitol Records albums will be available for the first time for download on May 2 from the major DSPs, including iTunes, Real/Rhapsody, and Napster. The digital debut will include the new anthology, as well as Helen Reddy (1971); I Don't Know How To Love Him (1971, Gold-certified); I Am Woman (1972, Platinum-certified); Long Hard Climb (1973, Gold-certified); Love Song For Jeffrey (1974, Gold-certified); Free and Easy (1974, Gold-certified); No Way To Treat A Lady (1975, Gold-certified); Music, Music (1976, Gold-certified); Ear Candy (1977, Gold-certified); We'll Sing In The Sunshine (1978); Reddy (1979); and Take What You Find (1980).
