Drs. Foster & Smith to be Featured in Katrina Reunion Episode of ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

RHINELANDER, Wis., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Drs. Foster & Smith, the nation's leading pet supply cataloger, has joined forces with ABC's Emmy-winning "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to help reunite Katrina-torn families with their pets lost in the storm. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: After the Storm - New Orleans" is scheduled to air Thursday, April 6 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network.

The Hurricane Katrina special will feature community-oriented projects, including the reunion of New Orleans families with their lost pets. Working with the non-profit animal rescue organization Best Friends, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" producers flew in pets that have been relocated to foster homes and shelters around the country. To help outfit "Best Friends" with the tools needed for the reunion effort, Drs. Foster & Smith donated over $21,000 in pet essentials, including hundreds of carriers, dishes, collars, leashes, grooming supplies, and "welcome home" toys.

For veterinarians Dr. Race Foster and Dr. Marty Smith, their participation in this dramatic episode is a "heartwarming final chapter of the Katrina tragedy." Within days of the disaster, Drs. Foster & Smith had expedited a cash donation to the National Red Cross to help launch its relief efforts. The company then organized a steady convoy of food and other desperately needed pet essentials to the Gulf States in support of the ongoing rescue, shelter, and veterinary care of displaced pets.
