Consumers for Cable Choice Issue Support for Bi-Partisan 'Video Competition Principles'
GREENWOOD, Ind., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by Robert K. Johnson, Co-chair of Consumers for Cable Choice following the release of the Senate "Video Competition Principles" by Senators Smith, Rockefeller, McCain, Ensign, DeMint, and Kerry:
"Consumers for Cable Choice congratulates the bi-partisan group of Senate Commerce Committee members who released today the 'Video Competition Principles' in a letter to Senate Commerce Chairman Stevens and Ranking Member Inouye.
"These principles are grounded in a free market, deregulatory approach to franchise reform which will hasten what the video services industry has lacked for far too many years: Consumer choice in cable providers. For far too long the cable industry has operated in a monopoly environment, and consumers have paid through skyrocketing prices, poor service and limited viewing options.
"We urge the full committee to adopt these principles and pass legislation that reforms the outdated franchise agreement process. Deployment of 21st century technology does not deserve to be thwarted by rules and regulations designed at a time when options for television programming came from rabbit ears or a single cable company."
