Panamanian Ambassador to Host U.N. Screening Depicting Reconciliation
NEW YORK, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday evening this week, Steve Saint will sit in a darkened theatre in Manhattan next to the man who speared his father to death and together they'll watch a new movie, "End of the Spear", that depicts the dramatic events of a remarkable story that took place in the jungles of Ecuador fifty years ago.
The screening at the Empire 25 theatre on 42nd Street will be hosted by the Panamanian Ambassador to the United Nations, Ricardo Alberto Arias, who has invited all permanent representatives and observers to the U.N. to see this special advance showing of the film which will be released in theaters nationwide on January 20, 2006.
Mart Green, one of the producers of the film, commented: "The Ambassador and the Panamanian delegation at the U.N. believe the message of reconciliation between people groups is of profound interest."
Filmed in the jungles of Panama and directed by award-winning director Jim Hanon, the film depicts the true story of five American missionaries who were speared to death by a remote and violent tribe in the Amazonian jungles of Ecuador in January, 1956. Subsequently, the men's wives, and Steve Saint as a young boy, established contact with the tribe and helped them to stop killing each other.
Today, Steve and Mincaye, the warrior who speared his father, are family to each other and Steve's son and his family are presently living in the jungles with Mincaye's tribe, now known as the Waodani.
