Sinclair Announces Analogue and Digital Cable Carriage With Wide Open West in Columbus, Ohio
BALTIMORE, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:SBGI) is pleased to announce that it has reached a binding retransmission consent agreement providing for the analogue and digital cable carriage of WSYX-TV (ABC 6) and WTTE-TV (FOX 28) in Columbus, Ohio by Wide Open West (WOW) cable systems. The multi-year deal also provides for the carriage of multicast channels.
With this agreement, WOW will be able to bring cable viewers in Columbus, Ohio the high definition signal of the Fiesta Bowl, when Ohio State takes on Notre Dame, as well as the Super Bowl on ABC, the NFL playoffs on FOX and other popular shows such as "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," "House" and "American Idol."
Dan Mellon, Sinclair's General Manager in Columbus, noted that the agreement was made possible because WOW recognized the value of being able to carry the signals of WSYX and WTTE, which allowed for an appropriate economic agreement to be reached. Sinclair has previously indicated that it does not provide cable operators with its digital signals without receiving adequate consideration. Sinclair continues to negotiate with the other Columbus-based cable systems, and as a reminder, viewers can access the high definition digital signal for free over-the-air.
WSYX-TV is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., one of the largest and most diversified television broadcasting companies, which currently owns and operates, programs or provides sales services to 60 television stations in 37 markets. WTTE-TV is operated by Sinclair pursuant to a time brokerage agreement. Sinclair's television group reaches approximately 22% of U.S. television households and includes ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, WB, and UPN affiliates.
