Peer Impact Tackles 50FootWave by Offering 'Free Music'
- Peer Impact members can now download 50FootWave's 5 song EP of new studio recordings for free along with bonus material from the band -
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. and LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Following the company's recent announcement of an agreement that will make Universal movies and NBC Universal TV events content available to Peer Impact members in early 2006, Wurld Media, along with the band 50FootWave, announced today that it will make the band's 5 song EP entitled "Free Music" available on Peer Impact's digital media service at no charge. The album will be offered in high resolution mp3 file format and will include bonus photo material from the band.
Last month, Peer Impact released the first multimedia version of their legitimate peer-to-peer network which offers members over 1.5 million audio tracks (including over 5,000 mp3s), over 1000 video games, and more than 10,000 Internet radio stations with movies and television to follow.
"We're happy to support 50FootWave in their mission to reach the largest audience possible and we applaud their decision to provide a sampling of their works for free as well as their choice to harness the strength of peer-to-peer networking to accomplish this mission," said Gregory Kerber, Chairman and CEO of Wurld Media, creators of Peer Impact. "We believe that every artist should have the opportunity to make their works available to the masses, and we are currently working on a component of our service to support independent publishing, sale, and distribution as we continue to build out a complete "head-to-tail" network" with Peer Impact."
50FootWave states that its goal is simply to circumvent the 'money cycle' and get high-quality (free) recordings into the hands of a maximum number of people.
"This project is attempting to tap the power of the network -- we're asking individuals for their enthusiasm rather than their money," said Bill O'Connell, the band's Manager. "It's an experiment we're eager to see play out. The independent infrastructure for reaching new ears with unknown music has become so diminished that we feel we have to try a new approach. Lately, it has become prohibitively expensive to reach people via traditional marketing means (radio, press, retail promotion) -- specifically, CD distribution costs and even touring costs have gone through the roof."
The 50FootWave "Free Music" EP is now available on the Peer Impact service (http://www.peerimpact.com/), and the company hopes to offer many other free titles in the coming months.
