ITVN and the National Lacrosse League to Offer Bundled Channels of Non-Stop Lacrosse Action
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Interactive Television Networks, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: ITTV) (ITVN), a leader in Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), today announced it has partnered with the National Lacrosse League (NLL) to launch "LacrosseTV," the first 24/7 broadcast network dedicated to lacrosse. LacrosseTV will broadcast live games, archived games and other features to subscribers' televisions over ITVN's internet broadcast network. LacrosseTV is certain to be a destination for all lacrosse fans, players and coaches.
LacrosseTV is scheduled to broadcast at least 20 live NLL games during the 2006 season. In addition, over 150 selected archived games from the league's 19-year history will be available on demand to all subscribers for no additional charge. College lacrosse games and other features are also planned to be included. LacrosseTV can be viewed on any television worldwide that is connected to ITVN's set-top box, and is available for a monthly subscription fee of $9.95. LacrosseTV is scheduled to be launched on January 1, 2006.
"ITVN is delighted to be the official home for the National Lacrosse League's TV service," said Charles Prast, CEO of ITVN. "We are pleased to introduce a series of IPTV sports networks, beginning with Lacrosse. Sports Illustrated recently described lacrosse as the fastest growing sport in America (April 25, 2005 issue). Lacrosse participation at the high school and college levels is booming. NLL games aired on NBC last season, and ESPN has carried college lacrosse for several seasons. It's the sport of the future, and we're excited to partner with the National Lacrosse League in offering this service to a rapidly growing player and fan base."
LacrosseTV will also include dedicated team channels for all eleven NLL teams, which will air archived games plus team news, blogs and other team information.
"Our partnership with ITVN has created a service for fans unlike any other in sports," said National Lacrosse League Commissioner Jim Jennings. "With the creation of LacrosseTV, our fans can watch more live games than ever before, and can re-live the great moments of past seasons with on-demand game archives. The content is easy for fans to find--each team has its own dedicated channel, with past games on-demand plus news and information on the current season. LacrosseTV, delivered by ITVN, will create a new standard in how leagues and teams offer content to fans. Every team will have its own dedicated television channel, which is unprecedented in sports."
Current ITVN subscribers will enjoy one Lacrosse channel as part of their current package, with the option to add the network to their subscription. To become a LacrosseTV subscriber or for more information, please visit www.lacrossetv.com.
What is IPTV?
IPTV stands for Internet Protocol TV, which is broadcast-quality television delivered over standard home broadband Internet. While offering the same quality as satellite or cable, IPTV has many advantages, such as virtually limitless programming and on-demand content because only channels selected by consumers are delivered over home broadband networks. All content -- including HDTV -- can be distributed on a subscription or pay-per-view basis with content promotion integrated into the user experience. Best of all, IPTV offers true interactivity for the customer, allowing two-way communication with services comparable to the Web, creating a better environment for users, programmers and advertisers.
About The National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League is North America's professional indoor lacrosse league, featuring the best lacrosse players in the world. The league's 20th season begins on December 30th, 2005. The NLL has eleven teams playing in the major markets of the United States and Canada. NLL teams each play a 16-game regular season schedule followed by the Champion's Cup Playoffs. All games are played on the weekends. The teams are: Arizona Sting, Buffalo Bandits, Calgary Roughnecks, Colorado Mammoth, Minnesota Swarm, Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, San Jose Stealth and Toronto Rock, plus expansion teams in the Edmonton Rush and Portland Lumberjax. Most of the NLL clubs are owned and/or operated by the National Hockey League (NHL) and/or National Basketball Association (NBA) teams in their respective markets, and play in the same arenas used by those teams. Professional indoor lacrosse combines the physical play of hockey with the high scoring, fast pace and play-making style of basketball. Indoor lacrosse is played inside the confines of a NHL hockey rink, with glass and rink boards intact. The playing surface consists of a green dieter turf carpet that is laid down over the hockey ice. The two teams combine to score a total of 25 goals in the average NLL game.
