Historical Media Associates Reveals Results of Year Long Maidanek Investigation

NEW YORK, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Historical Media Associates, an investigative documentary film organization, has uncovered evidence of an untold Holocaust story in the Death Camp of Maidanek, located in Lublin, Poland. Led by Producer Matt Mazer, and investigator Yaron Svoray, the team included archaeologists, investigators, Holocaust survivors, and a documentary film crew. Acting upon the direct testimony of the Maidanek survivors that HMA brought from Australia, the team unearthed more than fifty artifacts buried just beneath the sod. These items have been concealed underground for over sixty years.

Mazer said, "These sacred objects have been buried in darkness and despair and it is our honor to bring them into sunlight and hope ... It is our belief that these relics speak for those who no longer have a voice."

Survivor testimony indicates these items were buried as a final act of defiance. Following the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in 1943, as many as 18,000 Polish Jews were deported from Warsaw to Maidanek. As the camp had limited space, during April and May, 1943, thousands of deportees were forced to wait for hours, some for several days, without food, water, or shelter in an unused "middle field." Entire families awaited selection, surrounded by direct evidence of their probable fate in the gas chambers, including kilometer-high plumes of acrid black smoke from the Camp's funeral pyres of stacked human remains. Some captives proceeded to bury their valuables in this hitherto unexplored field. Maidanek survivor Adam Frydman, 82, said, "why give it to the Germans, why help their war effort?"

According to Holocaust survivor David Prince, 80, these items were "meant to be found by people exactly like us." HMA brought in a team of fifty five people from seven countries to the site to accomplish this feat.

"Working with such a diverse international team of people," Svoray said, "the most satisfying feeling was not only the find itself but the knowledge that we all understood the importance of what we are doing."

The project has been in production for the past year. HMA acted with the cooperation of the Maidanek State Museum, and renowned Israeli archeologist Dr. Yosef Porath.

The Maidanek documentary represents just one of a series of investigations, entitled Unfinished Business TM.
