California Repeats as the Nation's Auto Theft Hot Spot

The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that for calendar year 2004, California has once again set the pace for auto theft. Seven of the nation's top ten areas with the highest vehicle theft rates are in California. The communities of Las Vegas, Nevada; Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona and Seattle-Everett- Bellevue, Washington round out the top ten.

For 2004 the ten metropolitan statistical areas with the highest vehicle theft rates are:

1. Modesto, California
2. Stockton-Lodi, California
3. Las Vegas, Nevada
4. Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona
5. Sacramento, California
6. Oakland, California
7. Visalia-Tulare (too-LAIR'-ee) -Porterville, California
8. San Diego, California

10. Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, Washington

Female College Students Study More, Make Higher Grades and Graduate in Less Time, According To Student Monitor Study

A new report says America's female college students study more, are more likely to read their textbooks thoroughly and to earn "A"s in their courses, and expect to graduate in less time than their male counterparts. Male students study one-third less than women, party more often, are more likely to earn a "C" or less in their courses, and expect to take longer to graduate. The nationwide study of 18-hundred college students was released by Student Monitor.

AAA Reports Labor Day Travel Expected Higher Despite Gas Prices

Despite national record-high gas prices averaging more than two-dollars 61-cents per gallon, Triple-A expects no let up in travel for the Labor Day holiday weekend. An estimated 34-and-a-half million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this holiday, a one percent increase from the 34- point-two million who traveled last year.
