Xtend Networks' T1 Solution Earns Three Diamond Rating in Cable Industry Technology Competition
ATLANTA, May 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xtend Networks(TM), a Vyyo(R) company (NASDAQ:VYYO) that provides advanced broadband solutions for the cable TV industry, today announced that its solution for the delivery of symmetrical, voicegrade T1 (1.544 megabits per second) over HFC networks received a three-diamond rating in the Broadband Gear Report Diamond Technology Awards.
The Xtend solution, which currently is being trialed by cable system operators in multiple markets, earned the rating in judging by Broadband Gear Report's panel of industry experts. The competition included entries in six categories: VoIP Solutions; On-Demand and High-Definition Video; The Digital Home; Network Management and OSS; Advanced Networking Solutions; and Outside Plant.
"The delivery of true, voicegrade T1 opens doors to substantial new revenue opportunities for cable operators, including commercial services and the backhaul of traffic from cellular towers to wireless providers' switching facilities," said Bill Keating, CEO of Xtend Networks. "We're pleased that the staff of Broadband Gear Report and their panelists recognized the significance of our T1 solution to the industry."
"This is an extremely solid score," said Tim Hermes, publisher of Broadband Gear Report. "Our Review Panel pulled no punches with their product evaluation, and the Xtend T1 product has certainly captured the respect of these industry leaders."
"Inaugural Awards programs will always have very high standards," said Laura Hamilton, editor of Broadband Gear Report and a 15-year cable industry technical journalist. "This product not only 'made the grade,' but received high marks."
The carrier class T1/E1 technology combines Xtend's XMTS(TM), a head-end modular system servicing up to 24 T1 links, and the company's V3xx family of T1 modems to provide a low jitter, low latency solution that utilizes existing infrastructure and Xtend's T1 Network Management System. The complete, turnkey Xtend cellular backhaul value chain capitalizes on partnerships with providers of market data, equipment installation, and contracts with cellular carriers to enable cable operators to compete for the estimated 1.5 million T1s that are used for cellular backhauls in the United States alone.

Safe Harbor Statement
Statements made in this press release relating to the future, including those related to the potential for Xtend's systems to enable the cable industry to provide symmetrical voicegrade T1 services for commercial services and cellular backhaul and to economically enhance their networks, are forward- looking statements within the meaning of the "safe harbor" provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Because these forward- looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, there are important factors that could cause our actual results to differ materially from those in the forward-looking statements.
