Music Midtown Reaches Out to Atlanta Community; Inspires Students, Senior Citizens and Volunteers to Share the Spirit of Music

ATLANTA, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Music Midtown(TM), one of the nation's premier music festivals, announced today the launch of a series of community outreach initiatives in and around Atlanta. In an effort to spread and share the spirit of music and creativity, festival organizers and performers are setting out to visit four local schools as well as a home for senior citizens during the weeks leading up to the 12th annual three-day festival, June 10-12.

"Without doubt, the primary focus of Music Midtown is to provide festival goers with an unforgettable three-day music experience," said Peter Conlon, president of Peter Conlon Presents. "But we are equally passionate about bringing a little of that experience to members of the Atlanta community who may not be able to attend the festival and we truly want to be a good neighbor. The creativity that music inspires affects people of all walks of life and we are pleased to be able to give back through these programs."

This year, Music Midtown is working with CW Hill Elementary and John Hope Elementary to host an art competition for kindergarten students. Festival organizers provided these students with a Music Midtown design to color and winners will be announced at a one-of-a kind school assembly produced by Music Midtown. Past performers included: Magic Marc, Funikijam and special appearances by Pikachu and the WB 36! Frog. The winning artwork from these two schools will be printed on a t-shirt and distributed to all attendees at the assembly. CW Hill's assembly will take place on Friday, May 6 at 1:30 PM and John Hope Elementary's assembly will take place on Monday, May 9 at 1:30 PM.

On Friday April 29, Music Midtown hosted an assembly for Walden Middle School to announce the winner of the middle school art competition themed "All About the ATL." Students enjoyed performances by Culture Shock Atlanta, Jawz of Life and the Atlanta Funklordz and winners from the 6th, 7th and 8th grade will receive a private lunch with Atlanta's favorite hip hop pioneer, Jermaine Dupri.

Music Midtown is hosting a career panel for the students at Tech High School at Sci-Trek on Monday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m. -- noon. The topic of discussion will be entertainment and the arts and will feature five well-known Atlanta entertainment industry veterans. Students will then enjoy a private lunch with the performers and panel members.

The residents at Cosby Spear Senior High Rise are in for a treat during the weekend of the festival. On Saturday, June 11, Atlanta's own Francine Reed and Bill Gentry, both performing during the festival, will make special appearances and give performances for all residents. This is the sixth annual event hosted at the Senior High Rise by Music Midtown.

Music Midtown is a proud supporter of numerous non-profit organizations. Each year the festival showcases different groups that are making a difference not only in the Atlanta community but also across the nation. This area located, deemed Non-Profit Row, is near the Cultural Stage on Pine St. provides the opportunity for various non-profit groups to raise awareness, increase exposure, and cultivate recruitment initiatives to the festival's patrons throughout the weekend. This year's non-profits include: Aid Gwinnett, Atlanta Humane Society, Dekalb Rape Crisis Center, GA for Democracy, GA Law Center for the Homeless, Upper Chattachochee Riverkeeper, Hands On Atlanta and Planned Parenthood.

Finally, Music Midtown would not be possible without the generous time given by the 200+ volunteers. The festival makes a sizable donation to each non-profit that assists organizers during the course of the weekend. This year's Non-Profit organizations include: Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and YouthPride who will receive upwards of $5,000.

Music Midtown also feels it's extremely important to contribute to the well being of the neighborhood, city and parks. Over the past five years, more than $1,200,000 has been donated through discounted tickets that have been used as fundraisers for refurbishing the parks, neighborhood cash donations and more.

This year's Music Midtown will take place on new dates, June 10-12, but at the same location adjacent to the Atlanta Civic Center and will feature more than 100 musical acts. Additional line up announcements to follow. More festival information can be found at http://www.musicmidtown.com/ .
