Lycos Announces Search Interest Peaks for Kenny Chesney, Angelina Jolie and Constantine Maroulis

LimeWire, Hottest New Music File Swapping/Sharing Service

The Lycos 50 for Week Ending May 14, 2005

WALTHAM, Mass., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Lycos, Inc. (http://www.lycos.com/), a leading provider of search, community and technology lifestyle destinations, today announced the following information from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular Internet search results for the week ending May 14, 2005. For a complete list of The Lycos 50(TM) and for in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com/. Readers of The Lycos 50 can also share their thoughts on Internet trends and pop culture on The Lycos 50 Blog located at http://lycos50.tripod.com/blog/.

The Lycos 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms for the Week Ending May 14, 2005:
1) Pamela Anderson 6) American Idol
2) Paris Hilton 7) Mariah Carey
3) Star Wars 3 8) Dragonball
4) Britney Spears 9) Kenny Chesney
5) Poker 10) Angelina Jolie

Notes of Interest:

The surprise wedding of singer Kenny Chesney (#9) and Renee Zellweger (#43) sparked online interest this week as web users searched for more information about the new couple, pushing them to their first-ever appearances on The Lycos 50. Web users appear far more interested in the groom rather than the bride, as Chesney generates six times more search activity than Zellweger. Meanwhile, actress Angelina Jolie (#10) sees the biggest jump in search interest this week, up 230 percent, due in part to her role as U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. During a highly publicized trip to Pakistan, Jolie was photographed with Afghan refugees, including children, calling attention to the more than three million Afghan refugees living in Pakistan. Also making news this week is former American Idol (#6) contestant, Constantine Maroulis (#20), who re-enters this week's list following news that his band, Pray for the Soul of Betty, has released its first album, featuring Maroulis. Maroulis continues to be the only contestant from the current American Idol season to make The Lycos 50, with the exception of Mario Vazquez, who abruptly quit the competition in March.

Other Notes of Interest:

Could music file sharing/swapping service LimeWire (#37) become the next KaZaA? LimeWire makes its debut on this week's list, as the only other music swapping site generating interest with web users, other than KaZaA. Star Wars 3 (#3) continues its rise up the search logs, as the world prepares for the release of the last in the Star Wars legacy films on May 19. It remains to be seen whether Star Wars 3 will be able to overtake Pamela Anderson (#1) and generate the same online interest as the last Star Wars film, Attack of the Clones, which hit the number one spot on The Lycos 50 the week after the film was released.

The top 10 most-searched Star Wars characters for the week ending May 14, 2005:

1. Darth Vader
2. Princess Leia
3. Yoda
4. Padme Amidala
5. Anakin Skywalker
6. Jango Fett
7. Chewbacca
8. Darth Maul
9. Boba Fett
10. Luke Skywalker
