New Addition of Walker Art Center Is a Can't-Miss Stop in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- A new museum addition, unique Minneapolis tours and festivals of every kind are in the line-up this summer in Minneapolis. And with reasonable prices for everything, visitors will get more for their money.
The new addition at the Walker Art Center, designed by Herzog & de Mueron, doubles gallery space and makes the building an architectural attraction to visitors. A new theater and interactive educational lounges make the Walker a social gathering space, with programs featuring dance, film and music.
Minneapolis boasts tours showcasing a bit of the city's history, fun and culture. On a Minneapolis RiverCity Trolley tour, riders can hop on and off to visit numerous attractions along the route. An uncommon way to experience the city comes in the form of a self-balancing Segway. During a "Magical History Tour," riders roll along the riverfront, sightseeing and learning about the city. Minneapolis' newest tour is the Minneapolis Queen paddlewheeler. Three public cruises travel past the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, Mill Ruins Park and through the lock at St. Anthony Falls.
Music and art festivals keep the city lively throughout the summer and attract people from all over to celebrate. Free outdoor music concerts, including the Hot Summer Jazz Festival, Minnesota Orchestra's Sommerfest, and Alive After Five bring crowds to the streets and sidewalks.
The largest theater fringe festival in the nation takes place over 10 days in August, with performance art, storytelling, puppetry and more. Minneapolis MOSAIC celebrates the city's diversity, when artists and cultural organizations display their work through exhibition and performance. Several art festivals take place during summer months, the largest during "August Arts Weekend," when three festivals take place around the city.
Experience the flavors of Minneapolis through outdoor dining: rooftops, sidewalks and riverfront spots all offer fabulous food with beautiful surroundings. Play a game of lawn bowling on the rooftop at Brit's Pub, sit outside in an authentic beer garden at Black Forest Inn or boat watch at Pracna on Main, Tugg's River Saloon or Vic's. There's a wide array of food stands at all festivals, but foodies shouldn't miss the County Market Rockin' Ribfest.
