God on Film Festival Now Accepting Entries for Second Annual Competition
NEW YORK, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- New York City plays host to some of the finest film festivals in the country, including The New York Film Festival, The Tribeca Film Festival and The God on Film Festival.
The God on Film Festival?
While Gotham's first and only spiritual film festival hasn't yet achieved the famed status of some of the city's other major cinematic celebrations, The God on Film Festival was an overwhelming success in its first year. The festival's organizers have announced that submissions are now being accepted for the second annual competition.
"The decision to run the festival for a second year was made during the night of the first festival last July," said Jason Hatley, executive producer of The God on Film Festival. "The venue was filled to capacity, and we realized that our festival filled a niche for New Yorkers with a spiritual curiosity."
Created to recognize and reward filmmakers for the exploration of spiritual themes, the God on Film Festival accepts original short films in three length categories: under 30 minutes, under 15 minutes and under 10 minutes. Whether illustrated through dramas and documentaries or narratives and music videos, the festival is looking for films that capture the transcendent in ordinary life -- films that deal with issues of the spiritual journey.
The 2004 Special Jury Prize winner, David Baugnon, thrilled audiences with a documentary on Matisyahu, New York's best-known Hasidic reggae singer who expresses his faith through chanting and beat-boxing. "When I submitted my film, to be honest, I didn't know what to expect. In the end, I was impressed with the whole production and the upbeat crowd made the God on Film Festival the best experience of any screening I've been to."
This year's God on Film Festival will be judged by a panel of industry experts including a writer and producer for several hit television shows over the last decade, a prominent Broadway actress and a film executive from a top Hollywood studio, among others.
The final deadline for entries is Sunday, May 15, 2005. Only the first 500 films submitted will be considered. A screening and awards ceremony will be held July 11, 2005 in New York City. Cash prizes will be awarded in each length category.
