Belo Television Stations Win Record 38 Regional Murrow Awards, Leading All Other Media Companies Nationwide

DALLAS, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:BLC) announced today that its television stations earned 38 Edward R. Murrow Awards for 2005 in regional competitions across the country, a record number for the Company. Belo led all other media companies nationwide in the total number of awards won, outpacing the nearest competitor by almost 50 percent. Overall, Belo stations won nearly 40 percent of the awards for which they were eligible to compete in 10 categories. They competed in seven of the 13 Murrow regions nationally.

KVUE-TV in Austin virtually swept its Region 6 small market category, winning 9 of 10 awards. WCNC-TV in Charlotte won six of 12 large market awards in Region 8 while WWL-TV in New Orleans won five of eight large market awards in Region 9. Three Belo stations -- KVUE, WCNC and KING-TV in Seattle/Tacoma -- were honored for overall excellence.

In Region 6, which includes Texas and Oklahoma, Belo stations won 15 of a possible 22 awards in the television large and small market categories. In Region 1, which includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska, Belo stations won 10 of 21 awards.
