WeatherBug Media Services, from AWS Convergence Technologies, Provides Real-Time Severe Weather Alerts to TV Meteorologists

WeatherBug Zoom 2.0's severe weather alerts and enhanced usability features enable broadcast meteorologists to respond more quickly to severe weather events, 24/7

GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- WeatherBug, the leading provider of weather information services, today announced the release of WeatherBug Zoom 2.0 - its next generation all-digital, on-air live weather display system. Zoom 2.0 now includes real-time severe weather email, SMS and online alerting capability.

Broadcasters can now set custom parameters to receive alerts based on live local data from WeatherBug's exclusive network of 8,000 WeatherBug Tracking Stations placed at schools, government facilities and television stations around the U.S. Once a defined threshold has been exceeded, such as wind gusts of more than 40 mph or rainfall 1" or greater, Zoom 2.0 will issue an alert to a designate person or team. These exclusive notifications offer broadcasters a distinct competitive advantage by enabling them to quickly respond to, and warn, viewers of severe weather events that are impacting the communities where they live and work 24/7.

"Meteorology is a round-the-clock business and our broadcast partners operate on a constant 'need-to-know' basis. With Zoom 2.0, we alert our partners to severe weather events so they can disseminate valuable weather information to the community more rapidly than ever before," said Andy Jedynak, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of WeatherBug. "What's key is that no other service can provide such precise, instant data. That means our local broadcast partners can now extend their lead in terms of quality of weather coverage."

Zoom 2.0 relies on WeatherBug's proprietary network of more than 8,000 WeatherBug Tracking Stations and 1,000 cameras to deliver live local weather content to broadcasters in more than 100 DMAs, totaling more than 80 million households a month. Zoom 2.0 displays real-time weather data, camera images and time-lapse video in a dynamic on-air presentation. Broadcasters can show WeatherBug Tracking Stations or cameras from anywhere in their market, the region or the country to show relevant information for local or national weather stories.

In addition, the newest version of WeatherBug Zoom 2.0 incorporates a number of improved usability and functionality enhancements. Zoom 2.0's sophisticated search capabilities and innovative technology make it easy for weather teams to find key data points quickly, create an engaging and complete weather show within minutes, and update displays more easily. The platform also helps broadcasters tap and display community-submitted images from within their DMA to deliver a weathercast that is relevant and personal.

The WeatherBug TV broadcast partnership model was introduced in 1993. The WeatherBug 'on-air' solution connected schools to broadcast meteorologists across the U.S. Today, local broadcast meteorologists at over 100 NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, WB and Telemundo television stations are utilizing WeatherBug's live local weather conditions in their weather newscasts, offering a unique look at the weather from within viewers' neighborhoods.
