SEIU Local 1000, The Largest Union of California State Employees, Launches Radio Campaign

SEIU Local 1000, The Largest Union of California State Employees, Launches Radio Campaign

SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Jim Hard, President of the SEIU Local 1000, representing 89,000 state employees in hundreds of different job classifications, announced a statewide radio campaign to "bring attention to Governor Schwarzenegger's unprecedented campaign fundraising, at the same time he's failing to close tax loopholes for his campaign contributors, or create a budget that deals with the real issues of concern to California voters."

The 60-second radio spot, entitled "Mom's Mad," urges the public to call the Governor's office and urge him to close tax loopholes for his corporate contributors and support a budget that's good for schools, roads and public health.

The ad, which begins airing in the Sacramento media market on Wednesday, March 9th, will roll into media markets all across California over the next two weeks. A second radio spot, "Stand Up," will be added into the rotation as well.

"While Governor Schwarzenegger continuously slams special interests for controlling Sacramento, he's taken more special interest money than any Governor in history -- $40 million from drug and energy companies, health corporations, and car dealers," said Hard.

"If all that wasn't bad enough, he's now going to spend $70 million to hold a special election this November, rather than focus on tackling the real issues facing real Californians," Hard added.

SEIU Local 1000 will be entering contract negotiations in May with the Governor's representatives. Labor contracts covering the union's nine bargaining units and 89,000 state employees expire on June 30.

"In addition to his attempts to destroy secure retirements, the Governor has also indicated he will try to increase health insurance costs, cut holidays, and lay workers off for 5 days during the next fiscal year," added Hard. "We will fight him at the bargaining table and at the ballot box."
