Progress for America Voter Fund Launches Third Social Security 'Iceberg' Ad
The $2 Million National Television Buy Will Run for 3 Weeks on National Cable Channels
WASHINGTON, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Progress for America Voter Fund (http://www.pfavoterfund.com/) launched a powerful new ad today that makes the case that Social Security must be strengthened now to secure our children's and grandchildren's future. The ad is entitled "Iceberg" and begins running immediately in a national cable television buy costing $2 million.
Progress for America Voter Fund started the year with $9 million in the bank and plans to spend in excess of $20 million on this issue.
This ad will run for 3 weeks on national cable channels, complemented by a grassroots program in 24 states that is designed to educate lawmakers and the public about proposed changes that are necessary to save and strengthen the Social Security program.
"Iceberg" Script
ANNOUNCER: Some people say Social Security is not in trouble. Just like some thought the Titanic ... was unsinkable. Once, 16 workers supported one retiree. Today, 3 workers do. But when younger workers retire only two will support each retiree. Soon Social Security will be in the red ... spending more than it takes in. If nothing is done ... it will go ... bankrupt.
(MUSIC SHIFT) President Bush wants to rescue Social Security now ... before we hit the iceberg. The Bush plan? Voluntary personal retirement accounts to give younger workers the choice of saving for their own retirement nest egg. No payroll tax increases. And no changes for those 55 or older.
BUSH (from SOTU): ... But we have to move ahead with courage and honesty, because our children's retirement. Security is more important than partisan politics.
ANNOUNCER: We don't have to hit the iceberg. Urge Congress to help President Bush save Social Security ... now.
PFA-VF's ad is the third in a series. The first ad titled "Courage" focused on President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's role in creating Social Security. The second ad titled "The Right Thing To Do" encouraged Congress to find a bipartisan solution to addressing the Social Security crisis within the president's parameters: no changes for those 55 years and older, no payroll tax increases and the option of a voluntary personal savings account for younger workers to create a bigger retirement nest egg.
