Michael Jordan Remains Nation's Favorite Sports Star, Closely Followed by Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods

Once again Michael Jordan is America's favorite sports star even though he has been retired since 2002 and Mia Hamm is the country's favorite female sports star. Jordan is comfortably in first place though there are hints that others, including Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, in second place, and golfer Tiger Woods, in third place, are perhaps knocking on the door to replace Jordan as America's favorite. Manning has shot up to second place (from last year's 7th spot) after his record-breaking performance in this year's professional football season.

College Athletes Plan on Winning off the Field; Three of Four Want More Guidance on Managing Money

Student-athletes are bullish on their financial future, despite current debt, but they aren't relying on a career in sports to achieve success. According to a new survey by The Hartford Financial Services Group, more than 83 percent of student-athletes expect to live more comfortably than their parents. The Hartford Financial Game Plan Survey found that more than one third expect to become millionaires at some point in their lives, with that number jumping to nearly half for male student-athletes who were polled. An overwhelming majority of the student-athletes surveyed also believe that succeeding in a field other than professional sports would most likely make them wealthy and secure. Yet three-quarters of those surveyed wish they had been taught more about how to plan their financial future after college.

Matthew McConaughey, the star of the upcoming motion picture "Sahara," will be honored at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City, where he will host a screening of the film -- the first-ever major motion picture ever shown on the vessel -- for the Army Reserve soldiers of the 77th Regional Readiness Command on Thursday, March 3rd.
