This Old House(R) Unlocks its Doors for 25th Anniversary Designer Show House
Eighteen Talented Designers and 22 Innovative Spaces All Under One Roof
Portion of Proceeds to Benefit Building Arts Scholarship
CONCORD, Mass., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Emmy Award-winning This Old House is offering home and design enthusiasts a rare opportunity to tour a completed project up close and in person. The dramatic transformation of an 1849 Greek Revival farmstead into a classic home with historical depth will provide renovation and design ideas for everyone from the simply curious to the industry insider.
Open to the public from Friday, April 15 through Sunday, May 29, the This Old House designer show house will feature 22 extraordinary spaces that emphasize a sense of high style for everyday living-from the dark, rich floors and crisp, streamlined finishes of the library to the colorful fabrics of the rustic living hall outfitted with a mix of contemporary and antique furnishings. The expert craftsmanship that defines This Old House will be matched by the creative vision of 18 designers, and further enhanced by retailer-designed spaces such as Walpole Woodworkers' delightful teak- furnished terrace and the colorful and hip teen girl's bedroom created by PBteen(TM).
The This Old House designer show house is located in Carlisle, Massachusetts. Since parking will not be permitted at the house due to limited space, complimentary parking will be available Tuesdays through Fridays at the Carlisle Congregational Church, located at 147 School Street in Carlisle (1.8 miles from the show house). On Saturdays and Sundays parking will be at the Carlisle Public Schools, located at 83 School Street in Carlisle (just up the street from the Congregational Church). A complimentary shuttle service will be available throughout each day.
The show house hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, March 1 at http://www.ticketmaster.com/ and Ticketmaster Outlets, or by calling 617-931-2787. The price of general admission is $28 and $23 for WGBH members. For details, go to http://www.thisoldhouse.com/.
The expertise of the This Old House crew, the vision of architect Jeremiah Eck, and the creative eye of the designers will fill the 6,000-square-foot show house. The house features trends-such as bringing the outdoors in and preserving the best of the old while making room for modern living -- as well as products including high-performance technology. Among the spaces: a two- story living hall containing its original timber frame and a prominent fireplace, a bluestone terrace, a private library, and a state-of-the-art media alcove with a built-in by master carpenter Norm Abram. An education center, with information on the designers and product lines featured in the show house, as well as a souvenir shop with an array of This Old House and WGBH merchandise, also will be on site and open to the public.
Visitors will receive a 30-page guide that includes a room-by-room description and rendering, a detailed floor plan to guide visitors through the newly renovated farmstead, product listings, designer contacts, and a pencil and journal to take notes along the way.
To mark This Old House's 25th anniversary, the expert crew served as both renovators and homeowners. This Old House purchased the farmstead, which will be sold when the designer show house closes its doors to the public. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the This Old House Carlisle project, and from the designer show house, will benefit This Old House's first-ever building arts scholarship, designed to encourage young people to enter the building and design trades.
