SILVER SPRING, Md., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- You see them at the shopping mall or out for dinner on a Saturday night. Maybe they buy matching outfits, or maybe they're locked into an outdated look. Whatever the style, they think they look fantastic. But their friends and family think they are America's worst-dressed couple.

In a two-hour special titled Worst Dressed Couple in America that airs Friday, March 18, at 8 PM (ET/PT), WHAT NOT TO WEAR fashion experts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly search the country for the worst in fashion. Nominations from all parts of the country poured in for Stacy and Clinton to choose finalists for the show. Will it be Doreen and Artie from Westchester, N.Y., who not only make horrible style decisions but also actually make clothing for their family members? Or will it be Ryan and Beth from Garbersville, Calif., who give new meaning to Gothic Gauche? Or will Sonya and Tony from Albany, Ore., step up to the plate, with every one of their outfits being a walking billboard for cartoon characters?

A fashion intervention is needed, and TLC answered the call with a nationwide search for the "Worst-Dressed Couple in America." Submissions were gathered from all over the country through the TLC website and a national announcement in newspapers, radio and television. Stacy and Clinton methodically examined the applications to search for the finalists who will garner the title in the Fashion Hall of Shame.

The finalists for Worst-Dressed Couple in America were all secretly filmed for two weeks, providing Stacy and Clinton with plenty of material to capture their fashion faux pas. The three couples were all confronted with their fashion violations and whisked to New York for a little criticism and some sound advice. Stacy and Clinton serve as judge and jury as the finalists plead their cases for why they should or shouldn't be anointed Worst-Dressed Couple in America! The "winning" couple will go on a whirlwind tour of the rules of shopping, be separated and then reunited with each other's brand new look. They will certainly be transformed after this experience, but how will they feel about themselves -- and each other?

WHAT NOT TO WEAR is fashion intervention and personal transformation at its most dramatic. Each hour focuses on someone whose friends or family have nominated them as in dire need of a complete style overhaul. The series secretly films the fashion offender to catch them in their natural environment so the experts can evaluate their style and then plot their plan of attack. Stacy and Clinton then confront the person and reveal their plan to teach them WHAT NOT TO WEAR -- sorting through their current wardrobe, exposing them to the dreaded 360-degree view of themselves and providing them with rules for maximizing their best assets and personal style. Armed with these rules, knowledge on how to change their look and a Visa card worth $5,000, it's time to hit the shops. After a consultation with the fashion stylists on these new clothing choices, along with a dramatic hair and makeup revamp, viewers will see a complete transformation and a stunning revelation.
