McGraw-Hill Higher Education's Reel Justice Named Codie Awards Finalist

McGraw-Hill Higher Education's Reel Justice Named Codie Awards Finalist

Interactive Sociology Movie Considered for National Honors by Industry Association

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) has named Reel Justice, an interactive film for college criminal justice courses from McGraw-Hill Higher Education, a finalist in the 20th Annual Codie Awards in the category of Best Postsecondary Educational Instructional/Curriculum Solution.

Developed in partnership with WILL Interactive, Reel Justice is a unique interactive movie that takes the concept of active learning to a new level, enabling students to take on the role of a young police officer and influence key plot turns by making choices for him. Centered on a domestic violence incident that takes place in a college town, the movie allows students to explore course concepts and terminology in a relevant and meaningful context.

"With this breakthrough learning tool, students can explore a wide variety of criminal justice issues firsthand, mastering course concepts more completely than they could by just reading any text," said Steve Debow, president of McGraw-Hill Higher Education's Humanities, Social Sciences and World Languages Group. "Reel Justice is a catalyst for insightful discussion and stimulating classroom involvement."

The next round of voting in the Codie Awards includes the Finalist Review Program, in which SIIA members cast their votes to determine winners. Winners will be announced at the awards gala, which will take place on May 25 at Universal Studio's Globe Theater in Universal City, Calif.

"We are very pleased to be selected as a finalist for the SIIA award," Debow added. "McGraw-Hill Higher Education is committed to providing students and teachers with engaging technology that has a direct impact on student performance."

About The Codie Awards

In 1986, the Excellence in Software Awards program was established by the Software Publishers Association, now the SIIA, so that the pioneers of the then-nascent software industry could evaluate and honor each other's work. In 1993, the Excellence in Software Awards became the Codie Awards.

Since its inauguration, the Codie Awards program has carried forward the same vision -- to showcase the software and information industry's finest products and services and to honor excellence for corporate achievement and philanthropic efforts.

The Codie Awards hold the distinction of being the only peer-recognition awards program of its kind in the industry, providing a unique opportunity for companies to earn the praise of their competitors. As SIIA evolves to serve the needs of its members, the Codie Awards program remains the standard bearer for celebrating outstanding achievement and vision in the industry.
