Sybase Helps Cessna Save Time and Improve Aircraft Safety
World's Leading Producer of General Aviation Aircraft Leverages Sybase Real- Time Information Management Expertise
SYNOPSIS: Sybase(R) technology enabled Cessna to: - Save $501,000 in mailing costs in first year - Deploy an online system to monitor vital maintenance records in real- time - Replace a slow, time-consuming, paper-based tracking system and eliminate printing and mailing delays
DUBLIN, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and wireless software, today announced the success of a real-time information management solution for Cessna Aircraft Company. Through the Sybase-enabled online maintenance and tracking system, CESCOM, Cessna operators are able to monitor, create and submit maintenance reports in real-time, saving mailing costs and ensuring fleet safety through timely compliance with FAA mandates.
Cessna operators were using a paper-based maintenance system that could take 30-45 days to complete. Given this time lag, operators risked missing mandatory maintenance for aircraft that are consistently in the air flying 300 hours, or 180,000 miles, a year.
With Sybase, Cessna was able to leverage its existing IT assets to build CESCOM, a Web-based electronic aircraft maintenance tracking system. Sybase products used in the project include Sybase PowerBuilder(R) application development tool, Sybase PowerDesigner(R) data modeling tool and Sybase EAServer application server. CESCOM monitors maintenance records in real- time, generates complex reports, automatically converts them to PDF format, and submits them online, eliminating printing and mailing delays that ranged up to 45 days. CESCOM not only saved $501,000 in annual mailing expenses, but also helped operators ensure they reached timely compliance with FAA mandates, improving the overall safety of the Cessna fleet, including 5,000 Citations, Conquests and Caravans operating worldwide.
"The technology we chose to use to do most of the difficult parts of the system was Sybase. We did a lot of research on what was the best technology," said Rodney Hughes, Project Leader for Cessna Aircraft Company. "After we did all the analysis, the Sybase products came out clear winners."
"We are delighted to help Cessna not only save time and money, but also improve aviation safety with the successful deployment of the CESCOM system," said Raj Nathan, senior vice president and general manager, Infrastructure Technology and Solutions Group at Sybase. "Through Sybase technology, any organization can reap similar benefits -- deploying solutions that help manage complex information and get it to the point business action at exactly the right time. That is the heart of our Unwired Enterprise strategy: getting the right information, in the right format, to the right place at the right time."
