Free Information Aimed at Increasing Awareness About Financial Aid, College Options
RESTON, Va., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- "Paying for College and What You Need to Know," a 30-minute public service broadcast designed to provide Pennsylvania students and families with information and resources to help them plan and prepare for college, will air on WHTM-TV (ABC-27) at 7:30 p.m. tonight and at 12 p.m. on Feb. 27.
The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, produced the spot in response to the lack of financial aid information nationwide. Tonight's broadcast is intended to communicate to Pennsylvanian students and families the importance of continuing education beyond high school and the affordability of higher education through various types of financial aid.
Studies conducted by The Sallie Mae Fund in 2003 and 2004 revealed that knowledge of financial aid is a key predictor in a young adult's decision to attend college. The more families know about financial aid, the higher their chances of securing a college education, according to this research.
"The Sallie Mae Fund's mission is to increase access to higher education for families here in Pennsylvania and across the nation," said Kathleen deLaski, president of The Sallie Mae Fund. "Our research has shown that those most in need of financial aid actually have the least exposure to it -- by helping to address this crucial need we hope that more young adults will have the opportunity to capitalize on a higher education."
