Paul Rusesabagina Holds Exclusive Press Conference Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 The Newton Sheraton Hotel
BOSTON, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Paul Rusesabagina, in conjunction with his Newton-based speakers bureau, American Program Bureau (APB), announced today that they will be holding a press conference at the Newton Sheraton Hotel on Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 promptly at 10 AM. It will take place in the Ross Common Room -- lobby level. Subject of the Academy Award nominated film, Hotel Rwanda, Rusesabagina -- portrayed by Don Cheadle, nominated for Best Actor -- has been gaining nationwide attention. For more information, call Jan Tavitian at (617) 614-1631.
Friday's press conference will be Rusesabagina's only public appearance on the East coast prior to the Academy Awards this Sunday in Los Angeles. His wife, Tatiana, played by Sophie Okonedo nominated for Best Supporting Actress, will also be in attendance.
Rusesabagina is in town to receive the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award for his heroic actions during the Rwandan genocide. Known as the "African Schindler," Rusesabagina transcended from common man to international hero by turning his four-star Rwandan hotel into a sanctuary, in turn saving the lives of over 1200 people. Past recipients of the award include Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama.
Through APB, Rusesabagina has embarked on an international lecture tour to raise awareness of the 1994 Rwandan genocide and, more importantly, the ongoing tragedies occurring in Sudan and the Congo today. He urges the international community to see the movie, educate themselves on the suffering in Africa, and to get involved. He has set up his own humanitarian effort, The Rusesabagina Foundation, to aid survivors of the Rwandan genocide -- mostly women and orphaned children.
"I hope this will be a wake-up call, not only for Rwanda, but the whole international community," Rusesabagina stated.
Celebrating its fortieth year in business, APB is the leading speakers bureau exclusively representing over 200 of the world's most notable personalities including Mikhail Gorbachev, Larry King, and Desmond Tutu. In addition, APB has represented the real-life people whose incredible stories have been made subject of several blockbuster Hollywood hits such as The Hurricane's Rubin Carter, The Insider's Jeffrey Wigand, Remember the Titans's Herman Boone, The Civil Action's Jan Schlictmann, and Friday Night Lights's Gary Gaines.
