Oprah Finds Fortysomething Mom With Youthful Secret

Body-for-LIFE Proves a Sustainable Alternative to Fad Diets

GOLDEN, Colo., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- When they asked Kelly Adair if she would come out wearing a bikini, her modesty surfaced. She gasped and blushed, then gave it some thought. The idea of appearing on national television in a bathing suit would never have crossed her mind 10 years ago. But then another thought came to mind: the time she spent getting herself in such incredible shape. Women in their 40s should know that looking this way is attainable, she thought.

So out she strode onto the stage of The Oprah Winfrey Show in an orange Dolce & Gabbana bikini and metallic Manolo Blahniks as the first guest on the show featuring people who look better today than they did 10 years ago. A single working mother from Omaha, Neb., Adair had never made her health a priority. After repeatedly failing on fad diets, Adair decided to make a lifestyle change using a nutrition and exercise plan called Body-for-LIFE.

In sharing her story with Oprah, Adair was able to convey that a true transformation occurs from the inside out. She explained that sustainable weight loss takes effect only when you nurture your body and achieve a balance in nutrition and exercise.

"I've been able to follow the principles of the Body-for-LIFE plan for seven years because it's a lifestyle and it's simple," Adair says. "I don't count calories and I eat six nutritionally balanced meals per day. I exercise for less than four hours each week, alternating days of weight training and cardio with a day of rest."

After taking the initial 12-week challenge, Adair lost 25 pounds and cut her body fat in half. Since then, she has removed another 15 pounds and maintained the loss. When she began the program, her biggest motivation was to set a positive example for her daughter, Alexa. Now 16, Alexa accompanied her mother to the Oprah show.

"I looked in the audience and I could see her crying," says Adair, 43. "I had to hold back the tears or I would have lost it. To be able to make her so proud and show her how important it is to take care of yourself feels incredible."

A former radio producer, Adair ventured into a new career as a personal trainer a few years ago because she wanted to help others achieve their goals. "I want to make people see that they have the power to transform their lives," says Adair, who was named the Body-for-LIFE Lifestyle Achievement Award winner for her commitment.
