NEW YORK, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- An exciting and entertaining board game will be introduced to buyers for the first time at the American International Toy Fair February 20-23 in New York City. Board game manufacturer Altius Games plans to release the game to the public this fall. Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist in short track speed skating, Cathy Turner said, "the game allows for great social interaction of family and friends while combining fun with education. It brings the Olympic movement to America's living rooms and that will help to keep the Olympic flame burning year round."
The "Olympic Challenge" is the brain-child of Paul Tries, who is President of Altius Games. For Tries, winning the United States Olympic Committee - USOC - license approval was a huge step in making the game a reality. "The support and cooperation of the USOC in signing a licensed merchandise agreement has given our company the opportunity to move forward immediately. The launching of Olympic Challenge is the culmination of years of development and represents the first of its type in North America because of its multiple choice style of questions," he said.
The game may be played individually or as teams from two to twenty people and involves winning gold, silver and bronze medals. Players travel through the five Olympic rings answering trivia questions from five feature categories: countries, athletes, rules & records, events and Olympic history. To win, a player must be the first to collect a gold medal in each of the five categories and then race to the finish line on a colorful game board that uses Olympic graphics and creative images.
The Olympic Challenge game motto - "Support-Play-Learn" - will sell for $29.95 U.S. It is expected the game will be available in brand name retail stores starting this fall only in the U.S. due to strict Olympic laws. Presales are available at a discount over the internet at www.altiusgames.com starting in March.
Altius Games is hoping for a piece of the 2.4 billion dollar board game market in the United States. "The Olympic brand is so popular in the U.S. that nearly 75% of the population has a moderate to high involvement with the U.S. Olympic team," said Tries.
