Howard Stern Takes Top Rave Award as WIRED Renegade
From Architects to Entertainers, Scientists to Bloggers, WIRED Magazine Honors the Visionaries Who Are Changing the World
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- WIRED Magazine, long the barometer for what's next in culture, technology and industry, today announced the winners of its sixth annual WIRED Rave Awards, which recognize and celebrate "The People Changing Your Mind" in 14 categories. This year's top Rave award, "WIRED Renegade," goes to Howard Stern, the self-proclaimed "King of All Media." Stern's battle with the FCC and upcoming move to Sirius Satellite Radio is reshaping the future of radio as we know it.
Winner of the newest Rave category, "Blogger," is Kevin Sites, who is being honored for pioneering a new form of journalism while reporting from the front lines of the war in Iraq and the tsunami rescue effort in Southeast Asia. Brad Bird, director of the Oscar-nominated movie "The Incredibles," picks up the Rave Award in the "Film" category for his work on the groundbreaking Pixar film. Burt Rutan, who pioneered sub-orbital flight and a future for commercial travel, wins a Rave not only for defying gravity but for his amazing industrial design of SpaceShipOne.
"This year's Rave Award winners are inventive, rebellious, courageous, and they're changing the world," said Chris Anderson, Editor-in-Chief of Wired Magazine. "They're the mavericks, visionaries, and dreamers who inspire us as they transform our culture."
The Rave Awards honor the mavericks and dreamers among us who are reinventing everything from television, film and music, to medicine, architecture, books, blogs, and business.
