"Ron and I have known each other for some time," says Dash, CEO of "The Roc." "Just as we were getting ready to shoot the campaign, I heard about his situation and contacted him about the opportunity immediately."
Prior to taking part in the ad shoot at Dash's Club NA in New York City, Artest was suspended from the roster spot as his team's top defensive player on November 21, 2004. A cup thrown by a spectator hit Artest, prompting a retaliation in which he ran into the stands and began fighting.
Joining Artest and as the stars at his new job are Dash, Karolina Kurkova, Naomi Campbell and Kevin Bacon in addition to Rachel Roy, Cam' Ron, Charlotte Ronson, Samantha Ronson and Seven among others. Created by Lipman NYC and shot by world renowned photographer, Mario Testino, the campaign incorporates the many aspects of "The Roc" lifestyle and its products/companies. Those include: Clothing lines Rocawear, the Damon Dash Collection, Team Roc, State Property, Rachel Roy and C. Ronson; new MP3 offering, the RocBox; Damon Dash Music Group; and movie production company Dash Films among other initiatives.
The print ad campaign will debut in the March issues of Details, Elle, GQ, Teen Vogue, V, Vanity Fair, Vibe, Vogue, W and XXL.
