New England Patriots' Ty Law Claims 'Weber's Super Grill-Off' Victory in Jacksonville, Fla.

Defeats Philadelphia Eagles' Correll Buckhalter for 'Best Burger' Bragging Rights as ESPN The Magazine's NEXT Big Weekend Kicks Off in The Weber(R) Q(TM) Zone

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- If the winner of "Weber's Super Grill-Off" is any indication of who's going to win Sunday's big game, then the New England Patriots will hoist their third Vince Lombardi Trophy in four years.

Ty Law, cornerback from the AFC champion and defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, teamed up with nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Warren Moon, in Jacksonville today to defeat Correll Buckhalter, running back from the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, and his teammate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Tim Brown, in "Weber's Super Grill-Off." Michael Irvin, the former Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys and one of 15 finalists being considered for election into this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame, emceed the Grill-Off competition. The event kicked off ESPN The Magazine's NEXT Big Weekend party on the grounds of the historic Merrill House, two blocks from Alltel Stadium, home to this year's Super Bowl.

By throwing pigskins for accuracy, tossing steaks onto a flaming Weber(R) Q(TM) portable gas grill, and passing pork roasts down a football field for distance, both teams earned ingredients to then grill the "best burger" for chef and author, Jamie Purviance, who judged the Grill-Off competition. Judging was based on a 30-point scale evaluating technique, visual appeal and presentation, creativity, and of course, taste.

"I was confident coming in, being that we had a quarterback from Texas, and I have great taste buds...if this is any indication of what's going to happen on Sunday, then you know who's going to win," said Law after raising the Weber Q Trophy in victory.

Hosted by Weber-Stephen Products Co., the premier manufacturer of charcoal and gas grills and accessories, "Weber's Super Grill-Off" featured the Weber Q portable gas grill-the NEXT big thing in grilling.

"It took a smart game plan, athletic skill, and great grilling prowess for Ty Law and Warren Moon to walk away with 'best burger' bragging rights," said Purviance, author of the new Weber's Real Grilling(TM) cookbook due out this spring. "Law in particular came to win with a serious pre-competition strategy. His off-season practice paid off when we all got down to the big game."

For the win, Law and Moon were awarded the wildly coveted Weber Q Trophy and "best burger" bragging rights. All participants were awarded with a Weber grill.

The Super Grill-Off consisted of three events leading up to the actual grill-off competition: Pig Skin Pitch, where each team had 10 attempts to throw NFL footballs through the lid of an oversized Weber Q grill image from 15 yards away; Sizzlin' Steak Toss, where each team received five steaks to toss onto a Weber Q grill from 10 yards away; and the Pork Pass, where each team threw a 5 lb. pork roast for distance. Points accumulated in the three events translated into ingredients each team chose to make and then grill their "best burger."

Following the Pig Skin Pitch and Sizzlin' Steak Toss the score was a nail- biting 10 to 8 in favor of Law and Moon. It was time for the Pork Pass. Brown's toss of 27 yards held up against Moon's, whose pork roast rested a half-inch short of the Buccaneer's pass. The toss left the crowd roaring in excitement and saw Brown and Moon running to see who threw the roast the farthest. After "further review" by chef Purviance, the play stood and Brown and Buckhalter were awarded the point. But it wasn't enough as Law and Moon walked away with a perfectly grilled and great tasting burger topped with Swiss cheese, mustard, a touch of barbeque sauce, lightly grilled onions, crisp bacon, plus fresh lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
