Taking 'Bargain Hunting' to a Whole New Level

Taking 'Bargain Hunting' to a Whole New Level

PLANO, Texas, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Try telling the community of users at Dealtaker ( http://www.dealtaker.com/ ) that you can't get something for nothing and you're liable to hear a lot of evidence to the contrary. Users of the site trade links and information about closeouts, giveaways, multiple rebates, coupon codes, in-store promotions and other tips which help savvy shoppers get huge discounts.

Truly great shopping deals often take creativity and perseverance... getting that great deal might even be considered an art. The members of the user community at Dealtaker are practitioners of a new shopping form -- and they are willing to share their hard won knowledge with other users.

Many of the deals run far beyond clearance discounts. Members recently recounted their best deals of 2004:

'JerseyGirl007', a frequent poster at the site, recalls how she and other Dealtaker users got two Dora the Explorer dollhouses and a talking Dora doll. The toys would normally sell for a retail value of $106 before shipping: "Wow, thinking back, I got in on a lot of great deals (on Dealtaker). But what stands out in my mind is the Dora deal, including the $10 credit, making the final price for 2 dollhouses and a talking doll somewhere around $8 or $10 (including shipping)."

'byrd3tr' adds, "The 25-inch (size) plush animals from JC Penney were great too! Only $5.97 shipped for a $30 item!!"

'bodotdot' found a link on Dealtaker for 25% off a Dell flatscreen TV. He did even better when he bought a $400 monitor and received discounts through Dealtaker which changed the price to $265.

'Jedi Nut' got his wife a pair of moccasins from Lands' End for $3 that ended up being her favorite Christmas present.

"For me it has to be all the sheets! I have enough linens to outfit a Marriott!" writes 'Critnol'. After rebates and discounts, she got 4 sets of 260-Thread-Count King sheets and 8 pillowcases (regularly priced at $159.96 + shipping) for $34.98.

'Jean' sent a note to the webmaster: "I got a lot of good deals in 2004. The one deal I really liked was the Bass fishin' Pro Motion Activated Electronic game for $4.95 shipped." The original price was $34.95.

'Blondie' got a free coffeemaker by buying $8 of coffee. There is even a $5 offer now.

How about absolutely free? The Dealtaker user forum, 'Free Stuff' tells you how to get dozens of free magazine subscriptions, cosmetics, t-shirts, software, recipes, even long-distance phone cards.

Dealtaker is the brainchild of a group of users, led by webmaster, Neal Rapoport. Neal is a dedicated deal finder and has been since childhood: "When I was 14, I managed to get a brand new Commodore 64 computer for less than $10. That was when I discovered that the advertised store price is just the starting point. It became a game to get the lowest prices for things I wanted."

Recently the passion and hobby of Dealtaker has taken on a more urgent tone for Rapoport. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, requiring surgery and a nasty chemo regimen. Forced to spend time away from his software consulting business to take care of his family, Rapoport wants to expand Dealtaker so he can have more time at home with his wife and three small children. Part of all proceeds Dealtaker earns are donated to fund breast cancer research.

"We are putting out this press release because we want to attract more users to our community. Our members help each other and themselves. And it's not all about getting deals. The friendships and caring expressed are a constant source of support and I am honored to be doing this," says Rapoport.
