NETGEAR Announces New Network Storage Solution Based on Zetera Technology

Unique IP-based Network Storage Technology From Zetera to Power NETGEAR Products Targeting Digital Home and SOHO Markets

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, and Zetera Corporation, the developer of breakthrough network storage technology, today announced at CES 2005 NETGEAR's new network storage solution based on Zetera's unique patent-pending network storage technology. This new storage line will provide home and small office/home office (SOHO) customers a low cost, high performance network data storage solution.

Customers will now be able to easily share disk drives and access them over a network from any PC or server with this new network storage solution from NETGEAR and Zetera. For the same price of a standard external hard drive, home consumers will now be able to buy a centralized data storage solution that will stream multiple high definition films, music and access personal files simultaneously over wired and wireless networks.

"The digital media revolution has created demand for high performance networked storage," said NETGEAR's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Lo. "Families are accumulating massive quantities of digital photos, digital videos, and MP3 music. They want to store their precious data securely, and share it across all their computers and audio-video devices. NETGEAR's new storage solution based on Zetera's network storage technology combines high performance, data protection, and immense expandability -- all at very attractive price points."

Zetera's innovative network storage technology enables low cost home storage devices to perform at levels previously reserved for high-end business class storage area networks (SAN). For consumers, this means new storage solutions for protected media vaults, enabling automated backups through a pair of mirrored hard drives making digital content available throughout the networked digital home.

The storage solution accommodates up to two standard IDE hard drives of any size. Based on current drive capacities on the market today, this device enables users to attach up to 400 gigabytes of storage to their home networks, and can be continually upgraded to larger drives as they become available.

It comes with an easy to use graphical user interface that enables quick and simple configuration, as well as the opportunity to do more sophisticated customization for experienced users. Hard drives can be subdivided into multiple drives for easy segmentation and storage of data, while data mirroring is accomplished through a simple utility to ensure the safe backup of information.

"As one of the leading and most trusted retail brands, NETGEAR is ideally suited to bring our storage technology to home networking consumers, and we are looking forward to having Zetera network storage technology as part of the NETGEAR product family," said Zetera's CEO Chuck Cortright.

Zetera technology architecture uses the standard building blocks of Internetworking Protocol (IP) and industry-standard network switches to deliver storage solutions that scale smoothly from consumer applications to massive data center arrays.

The first NETGEAR products based on Zetera's network storage technology are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2005 and will be available through NETGEAR's consumer and reseller channel partners.
