Pure Networks Unveils Network Magic Software That Manages & Enables Home Networking Activities

America Online and D-Link to Distribute Network Magic Software; 'Network Magic Optimized' Program for Hardware Partners is Launched

LAS VEGAS and SEATTLE, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Pure Networks, Inc., the leading creator of home networking software and services, today unveiled Network Magic(TM), the software that makes everyday home networking possible, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Network Magic is the only all-in-one home networking software solution that eliminates the frustration of running a home network by simplifying and automating Windows home networking configuration, management and repair, and by providing secure, hassle-free sharing of files and devices. Network Magic will initially be distributed to consumers by America Online, Inc., D-Link and Pure Networks. Earlier today, America Online and Pure Networks announced a partnership to deliver AOL Network Magic, a custom version of Network Magic, to AOL members later this year.

Network Magic is consumer software that connects and unifies the many different PCs, routers, gateways, and networked devices found in today's home into a seamless home network that is easy for consumers to use and enjoy. Network Magic software resides on each computer within a home network, allowing them to communicate and share files and folders with one another, as well as with other networked devices such as routers, printers, video cameras and media adapters. In addition, Network Magic enables easy, secure Internet access to files for friends and family, via any Internet-connected computer, anywhere in the world.

Released today, the beta version of Network Magic is available now at: www.networkmagic.com.

"Millions of homes have someone at the helm who is the computer fix-it person, but who is tired of fixing their family's networking problems, and they want to be able to use their home network to easily share photos, music, documents, and other files with friends and family," said Tim Dowling, CEO and President of Pure Networks. "With Network Magic, consumers finally have a software solution that makes everyday home networking possible. We're extremely pleased to be working with America Online & D-Link to distribute this software to consumers."

The phenomenal growth of home networking in the U.S. over the past several years has led to significant consumer challenges in making the wide variety of PCs and network devices "just work" in their homes. Retailers suffer high return rates on networking gear, and service providers experience long and expensive home networking technical support calls. Network Magic helps ISPs, Broadband Service Providers, Hardware Manufacturers, and PC Manufacturers reduce costs and deliver value-added applications to consumers.

"Home networking is a huge challenge for consumers today, and consumers need a software solution that simplifies home networking," said Van Baker, Vice President & Research Area Director, Consumer Electronics, Gartner G2.

'Network Magic Optimized' Program Launches with D-Link as Initial Partner

Pure Networks also today launches its Network Magic Optimized Program, in which hardware and software manufacturers leverage the Network Magic Compatible APIs to extend the capabilities of their devices or software, enabling them to differentiate their products and consumer experiences. Network Magic Compatible APIs are APIs to which partners can write applications that enhance the value of their offerings, and leverage Network Magic. Network Magic Optimized products are tested and certified by Pure Networks, and then become eligible to display the Network Magic Optimized logo. More information about the Network Magic Optimized Program can be found at www.networkmagic.com.

Also announced earlier today, D-Link, the global leader in consumer network connectivity, is the first hardware manufacturer to distribute Network Magic with its devices, as well as the first company to join the Network Magic Optimized Program. Beginning in the second quarter of 2005, D-Link will distribute Network Magic with selected consumer networking devices.
