LSI Logic DMN-8602 and DMN-8652 DVD Recorder System Processors Earn EDN 'Hot 100 Products of 2004' Award

LSI Logic DMN-8602 and DMN-8652 DVD Recorder System Processors Earn EDN 'Hot 100 Products of 2004' Award

MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE:LSI), a leader in multimedia processing for the Digital Home, today announced that its DVD recorder system processors based on the DoMiNo(R) architecture, DMN-8602 and DMN-8652, have been honored by EDN, a trusted and global source of technical information for design engineers. The LSI Logic field-proven, single-chip devices, earned EDN's "Hot 100 Products of 2004" designation in the multimedia category for their industry-leading capabilities, single-chip form factor and ability to provide system designers with considerable savings on BOM (bill of materials) costs.

"We are honored to have our DVD recorder system processors selected as EDN's Hot 100 Products of 2004," said Tim Vehling, senior director of marketing for LSI Logic's Consumer Electronics Division. "The recognition of our DMN-8602 and DMN-8652 products by EDN highlights our success in providing highly integrated, but cost-effective solutions for the rapidly growing DVD recorder market."

The DMN-8602 is LSI Logic's second-generation DVD recorder processor that leverages the high-level of integration of the company's first-generation DMN-8600. One or both of these processors have been designed into consumer products from leading equipment manufacturers such as GoVideo, JVC, Lite-On, LG Electronics/Zenith, and Samsung. The DMN-8602 reduces up to $20 in system costs compared to the previous generation, which was already an industry leader, having enabled some of the lowest retail price points in 2003. The company's third-generation DVD recorder system processor, the DMN-8603, announced last week at CES 2005 (www.lsilogic.com/ces2005news) as part of the three-chip DiMeNsion(TM)-3 solution, further reduces system costs up to $20 compared to previous-generation solutions.

The DMN-8652 is LSI Logic's second-generation, single-chip hard disk drive (HDD)/DVD recorder system processor, enabling the recording of broadcast TV to DVD with time-shift capability and support of DVD+RW/+R, DVD-RW/-R and DVD-RAM/-R recording standards. With its high level of integration, the DMN-8652 also considerably reduces BOM costs and supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and DV-25 compression formats.

LSI Logic's Consumer Products Division provides innovative digital media processing and silicon solutions to industry-leading, worldwide consumer electronics manufacturers. With a complete line of cutting-edge products for DVD, DVR, EVD, video game, digital TV, HDTV, set-top box, and professional video production/broadcasting devices, LSI Logic delivers entertainment into and throughout the Digital Home.
