WHAT: HBO is joined by Comcast Detroit for the Detroit invitation-only
premiere screening of HBO Films' Lackawanna Blues.
The ensemble drama, the directorial debut of acclaimed Tony Award-
winning stage director George Wolfe, tells the story of Nanny and
the eclectic and eccentric group of tenants who lodge in her house.
This true story is adapted by Ruben Santiago-Hudson from his own
critically-acclaimed autobiographical play of the same name. As a
boy in the 1950s and 60s, with his parents unable to take care of
him, Ruben Jr. is essentially adopted by Rachel "Nanny" Crosby, an
African-American proprietor of a rooming house. Nanny's place is
not just walls and a roof, but a home where blacks can come up from
the south, or from their own personal hells, and get a new start.
The film will debut Saturday, February 12, 8:00 p.m. E.T.
WHO: The ensemble cast features: S. Epatha Merkerson ("Law & Order"),
Marcus Carl Franklin ("Caroline, or Change"), Mos Def (HBO's
"Something the Lord Made"), Carmen Ejogo (HBO's "Boycott"), Louis
Gossett Jr. ("Jasper, Texas"), Macy Gray ("Training Day"), Hill
