RxHub Commends the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in Supporting Electronic Prescribing Regulations

RxHub Continues to Demonstrate its Support with its Leadership and Collaboration in the Industry

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- RxHub(R), the leader in connecting the prescribing industry commends the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in leading the efforts to drive health information technology-improving health care for all Americans by issuing proposed regulations on electronic prescribing ahead of schedule. This is the first step in achieving President Bush's plan to make America's first-rate health care safer, more accessible, and more affordable. RxHub has worked collaboratively with CMS, has attended and actively participated in NCVHS hearings for electronic prescribing standards, and worked in partnership with industry leaders to ensure consensus to enable and accelerate adoption.

Rapid adoption within Medicare will drive a new standard of care throughout the health care system that will result in significant savings to consumers, providers, and payers-improving quality outcomes. The technology to implement eprescribing exists today and the benefits (safety, adherence, and cost savings) will be achieved in the near term with the leadership of CMS Administrator Mark McClellan and all levels of the government, dedicated to deploying the necessary resources to accomplish this significant effort. President Bush has been unwavering in his commitment that most Americans have electronic health records within the next decade and has promoted efforts that will accelerate the broader adoption of health care information technology.

RxHub is proud to be part of this national solution. RxHub has fulfilled its original mission, building the electronic framework that is a secure standardized communication channel throughout the prescription writing, delivery and payment process. RxHub has developed standards (where none existed) to implement its cutting-edge technology to route the front end information including benefits, formulary and patient medication history to physicians at the point of care. These elements are requirements for eprescribing as stated in the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA). "This is an incredibly dynamic and exciting time in the health technology industry. RxHub is proud to submit its developed proprietary protocols for formulary and medication history to NCPDP for adoption as an ANSI-accredited standard," said Dave McLean, CEO of RxHub. Our ability to enable informed prescriptions at the point of care in real time will have an immediate and significant impact to improve patient safety and reduce health care costs."
